چکیده

We consider first the zero-nonzero determination problem, which consists in determining the list of zero-nonzero conditions realized by a finite list of polynomials on a finite set Z ⊂ C with C an algebraic closed field. We describe an algorithm to solve the zero-nonzero determination problem and we perform its bit complexity analysis. This algorithm, which is in many ways an adaptation of the methods used to solve the more classical sign determination problem, presents also new ideas which can be used to improve sign determination. Then, we consider the real-nonreal sign determination problem, which deals with both the sign determination and the zero-nonzero determination problem. We describe an algorithm to solve the real-nonreal sign determination problem, we perform its bit complexity analysis and we discuss this problem in a parametric context.

Minimal Spectrally Arbitrary Sign Patterns

An n × n sign pattern A is spectrally arbitrary if given any self-conjugate spectrum there exists a matrix realization of A with that spectrum. If replacing any nonzero entry (or entries) of A by zero destroys this property, then A is a minimal spectrally arbitrary sign pattern. For n ≥ 3, several families of n × n spectrally arbitrary sign patterns are presented, and their minimal spectrally a...

Novel Approach to Real Polynomial Root-finding and Matrix Eigen-solving

Univariate polynomial root-finding is both classical and important for modern computing. Frequently one seeks just the real roots of a polynomial with real coefficients. They can be approximated at a low computational cost if the polynomial has no nonreal roots, but typically nonreal roots are much more numerous than the real ones. We dramatically accelerate the known algorithms in this case by...

Ela Allow Problems concerning Spectral Properties of Patterns∗

Let S ⊆ {0,+,−,+0,−0, ∗,#} be a set of symbols, where + (resp., −, +0 and −0) denotes a positive (resp., negative, nonnegative and nonpositive) real number, and ∗ (resp., #) denotes a nonzero (resp., arbitrary) real number. An S-pattern is a matrix with entries in S. In particular, a {0,+,−}-pattern is a sign pattern and a {0, ∗}-pattern is a zero-nonzero pattern. This paper extends the followi...

Non-zero probability of nearest neighbor searching

Nearest Neighbor (NN) searching is a challenging problem in data management and has been widely studied in data mining, pattern recognition and computational geometry. The goal of NN searching is efficiently reporting the nearest data to a given object as a query. In most of the studies both the data and query are assumed to be precise, however, due to the real applications of NN searching, suc...
